How do I set up my mail account?
To create your account in Thunderbird, follow these instructions.
From Thunderbird, click on Edit in the top bar, and then on Account Settings.
Click on the Add Account button, select Mail Account and click Next.
For the 'Display name', enter your name (e.g. John Smith) and click NEXT. Enter your email address (ie user@your-domain.co.uk ) in the appropriate field, and click NEXT.
Ensure that POP is selected under Type of Incoming Server, and for the 'Incoming mail server' enter pop.mail.x-isp.net.
For the 'Outgoing mail server' type the smtp server for your ISP. eg. post.mail.x-isp.net and click NEXT.
Enter your email username provided by your ISP in the 'Incoming User Name' and 'Outgoing User Name' (NB thses will usually be the same) and click Next.
You can now give the account a 'friendly' name so that you can identify it from your account (i.e John's Mail) and click NEXT.
On this final screen, confirm all details are correct and click FINISH.
If you wish to configure Thunderbird for SSL, which is recommended for increased security and required for 'off-net' access, please follow the guide below.
First open up Thunderbird , and go to the Account Settings menu under Edit.
Select the Server Settings option for the account you wish to change. You should see a screen like this:
Under Security Settings, select SSL
To set your Outgoing Server to use SSL, select Outgoing Server (SMTP) from the Account Settigns screen.
Select the Server you want to use with SSL and click the Edit button
Under Security and Authentication, select SSL and click OK.
Click OK.
