Dial-up networking error 633
There are a number of reasons for this error message occurring:
1. Another windows program has control of the modem. This can sometimes occur with poorly written software not closing the port correctly, or failing to respond. In most cases, it is necessary to reboot the computer in order to solve this problem.
This can also occur if you use 16 bit communications programs such as fax managers. These programs require exclusive use of the modem port and therefore stop other programs using it. If you disable these programs then the modem is usually released ready for use again. Alternatively, you may upgrade to 32 bit versions of these programs. You can end individual programs by pressing CTRL ALT DEL and ending task manually. Unless you are completely comfortable doing this then it is usually easier to reboot the computer.
2. The telephone.ini file may be missing or damaged C:windowssystemTapiini.exe will create a new one for you. Please consult your computer administrator before you run this program as this may change your configuration.
3. The unimdm.tsp file is missing. The following Microsoft help files may also be useful: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q191/4/44.asp - Modem is not installed http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q190/5/54.asp - Windows 98 modem problems
