Dial-up networking error 720
This error mainly occurs when the wrong protocol is selected for dial-up networking. There are a number of checks that can be made to alleviate this error.
1.Check which protocol is configured in dial up connection.
Win 98/SE/ME:
Double click on My computer Double click on Dial up networking. In Windows ME this is in start menu>Settings. Locate your ISP dial up connection Right Click and click on properties on menu that appears. Click on Server types (or Networking on Windows ME) In the lower third of the screen there are 3 protocols listed which are NETBUI, IPX/SPX and TCP/IP Check that TCP/IP is the only box with a tick in it Check that the type of dial up server is PPP Ensure that Log On To Network is not ticked Click ok or apply to exit
Win NT 4.0:
Double click on My computer Double click on Dial up networking Click the more button and edit entry and modem properties from menu Select the servers tab and select on TCP/IP Click ok or apply to exit
Win XP:
Select Properties for My Network Places Double click on Local Area Connection If TCP/IP properties are not already present, Install Make sure the box is ticked next to TCP/IPOther less likely reasons for this error message are:
1.The TCP/IP installation may be damaged - Please ensure that you have access to your windows installation disc, and that you are not on a network before you attempt this procedure. If you are on a network please contact your network support personnel. Go to start > Settings > Control Panel > Network (settings)
Highlight TCP/IP and click on remove. Clck on Add and select Protocol and TCP/IP. This should re-install TCP/IP.
